Introduction to Drawing Fundamentals

Service Description

Focusing on graphite pencil these short courses will introduce students to the foundational theories and techniques of drawing, covering sketching, principles of shading and tonal value, composition, and observational drawing. Students will build their skills progressively, developing a solid understanding of core drawing fundamentals. Week 1 — Fundamentals of Form Introduction to basic three-dimensional forms — sphere, cylinder, and cube. Students learn the core principles of shading and volume to represent 3-dimensional geometric shapes, convincingly on paper. More challenging objects can be attempted as able. Week 2 — Applying Form to Objects (Part 1) Building on Week 1, students apply what they’ve learned to more complex objects Week 3 — Applying Form to Objects (Part 2) Continued practice with object studies, reinforcing volume and form through repetition and refinement. Progression to more complex shapes as able. All materials and light refreshments provided.
