Encaustic Paintings - Painting with Wax

Encaustic painting or hot wax painting, involves  heating beeswax and adding colored pigments, the liquid paste is then applied to a surface.

Encaustic is a Greek word meaning “to heat or burn in”. Heat is used throughout the process, from melting the beeswax and varnish to fusing the layers of wax. Pigments may be added to the medium, which is melted and applied with a brush or other tools the artist wishes to create from. Each layer is then reheated to fuse it to the previous layer.

In this workshop you will create several smaller pieces each experimenting in different encaustic techniques.

So join us in this messy yet creative workshop, which requires a lot of specialised equipment that you wouldn't easily try yourself.
