LEE      LYNN      PHILIPPA      PAM      ANN-MARIE      HARRIET     TARAKA

LEE O'CONNOR

Lee began teaching in Melbourne in 1993 after emigrating from New Zealand, where she was under instruction from various teachers doing oils, acrylics and at that time the very popular folk art. A subsequent move to Queensland had her set up classes again at her home in Brisbane. By 1996 she was running 7 adult classes and 3 children's classes per week. At the end of 2006 she decided to move into commercial premises in Sherwood where she continues to teach five adult day classes and three night classes per week.

Lee teaches at Lilly-Lee Gallery on:

  • Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 7.30 - 9.30 pm,

  • Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 9.30 - 11.30 am, 

  • Children's class Saturday 9:00 - 10:30 am

  • Saturday 11:00 am - 1:00 pm,

  • Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons from 12.30 - 2.30 pm 

Lee continues to teach six adult day classes, three night classes and one children's class. She also conducts workshops including Black & Whites (Portraits) and Creative Torsos.

MIRANDA FREE

During Miranda's school years she was passionate about Art, drew and painted constantly, and won the Art Prize in her final year. Although she had always intended on pursuing a career related to her passion, she was deflected and ended up studying molecular biology, education and journalism. She has worked as a teacher, researcher and in Science communication as well as freelancing as a graphic designer and desktop publisher.

Ten years ago Miranda began attending classes at the Arts Academy, based at Balmoral SHS. She obtained an Advanced Certificate in Fine Art with Honours, and Studio Practice Certificates I and II and has continued to develop her own studio practice ever since. In 2008 she obtained a Graduate Certificate in Education Studies (Visual Art) and is currently enrolled in a PhD, Portraits of women making a difference in arts education through creative leadership, through Griffith University.

Miranda works as Art Specialist in a Queensland State Primary Schools and teaches at local high schools, conducts research evaluating artist-in-residence projects in schools, and tutors in art education courses at Griffith University.  She uses a variety of mediums and produces drawn, painted and mixed media works using traditional methods.

Miranda teaches classes at the Lilly-Lee Gallery on Thursdays 9:30 am to 11:30 am and 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm and conducts adult and School Holiday workshops at the Gallery.

 

TARAKA STICHA

Taraka Sticha is a Secondary Art teacher and has taught both Primary and Secondary Art since she completed her Bachelors of Visual Art/Education in 2003 at QUT.

As part of her art practice Taraka has made Artists’ Books, designed jewellery and costumes, illustrated children’s books and likes painting, printmaking and making ‘things’ for her friends

Currently studying Arts Therapy, Taraka is interested in the exploration of internal inspiration for art making.

Taraka conducts holiday workshops for children, adult workshops and teaches a children's class at the Lilly-Lee Gallery on Wednesday afternoons from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm.

PHILIPPA NIHOT

Philippa has been teaching art since 1991. Her interest lies in contemporary mixed media and exploring the use of layering. Philippa embraces the use of colour and rich metallics as well as text in art.

For the past five years Philippa has worked with ‘at risk’ youth developing an art program that allows young people to experiment and develop confidence to express themselves independently.

Having fun and being inspired by other artists of all ages is something Philippa loves about taking the classes at Lilley-Lee Gallery.

Phillipa teaches a children's class at the Lilly-Lee Gallery on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 4:00 to 5:30pm.

PAM LEECH

Pam completed a Bachelor of visual arts at QUT Kelvin Grove, majoring in contemporary painting and sculpture. She then undertook her Post Graduate studies in secondary teaching and started her career in 1995 at a challenging school in London.

Returning to Australia in 1996, Pam has been teaching high school art since, and is currently posted at Corinda State High School. She enjoys working and creating with young adults and challenging those who believe they "can't".

Pam teaches a children's class at the Lilly-Lee Gallery on Monday from 4:00 to 5:30pm
and an adult class on Thursday night from 7:30 to 9:30pm.

ANN-MARIE GRANGER

After struggling unsuccessfully to learn from a book, Ann-Marie met the husband of her future teacher when he was demonstrating calligraphy during Japan week in the  Mt. Coot-tha Japanese gardens. She was delighted to discover that lessons were to start soon.

That was almost five years ago. At school she was a very average art student, but the way Sumi-e is taught, has allowed her to progress regardless of her previous experience and she still looks forward to every lesson.

In 2008 Ann-Marie's work was submitted to Japan for exhibition in and subsequently she received approval to teach.

Ann-Marie teaches Sumi-e at Lilly-Lee Gallery on alternate Saturdays from 2:00 to 4:00 pm,

LYNN EDWARDS

Lynn is an accomplished local artist who has worked with oils, acrylics and watercolours. She is a member of the Queensland Watercolour Society, has participated in group and public exhibitions, and her works hang in many private collections in Australia and various locations worldwide. Since moving recently to Brisbane, Lynn has achieved First Prize for Still Life in the Royal Queensland Show Fine Art Exhibition 2007.

Lynn teaches watercolours at Lilly-Lee Gallery on Mondays from 12:30 - 2:30 pm. She also conducts workshops including Fabulous Fish and Travel Dairy.

HARRIET VALCKX-JAKINS

Harriet was born in Indonesia to Dutch parents and has lived around Australia including running her own Signwriting and Graphic Design business in Canberra. Since moving to Brisbane she has been inspired by the lush vegetation and the varied streetscapes and seascapes.

Her paintings are clearly meant to give immediate enjoyment and reflect her love of her current environment.

Harriet teaches her distinctive method of painting with workshops at the Lilly-Lee Gallery.
